How Khelp Works

When Alginate, an ingredient derived from seaweed, interacts with stomach acid, it forms a gel-like barrier that blocks the acid from your esophagus, putting a stop to reflux.

By keeping stomach acid in your stomach, Alginate prevents reflux from happening in the first place. Since it doesn’t interfere with the acid production necessary for gut health and digestion, and because it’s a non-toxic, non-pharmacologic physical solution, it’s safe for long-term use and during pregnancy.*

    Works well

I have been taking 2 tablets each night about 1/2 before bed. I can say that kelp really works. I have had very minimal reflux and heart burn during the night.

I have been taking kelp for about 1 week now. So far so good.

    Pleasantly surprised!

I started getting acid reflux almost every day. I ordered Khelp with the hopes of weaning off Famotadine 20mg for something more natural. It did take a little bit of time to start working, but I have to admit that my acid reflux is much better! It's not quite the same result as using the Famotadine, but it is very good! I am ordering the subscription now. I honestly didn't have high hopes that it would work, but I am pleasantly surprised. However, I do wish it was not so expensive.

    Khelp proved itself almost immediately!

I have tried polypeptide inhibitor drugs in the past for heartburn and acid reflux which worked very well but using PPI's have mixed reviews for long term use so I stopped using them and relied on Tums to get me through heartburn attacks and when there were overnight reflux problems, I drank warm water with baking soda which worked really well too. However, both the Tums and baking soda were needed during the time of an attack and not always convenient to do. Unintentionally, I had an opportunity to try Khelp the same day I received it because due to my schedule, I was eating a late dinner which is always a precursor for heartburn/reflux. However, I took 2 Khelp tablets 30 mins before bed and slept through the night w/o any heartburn or reflux. I do still depend on tums for the daytime heartburn and will sometimes take one at bedtime (along with the Khelp) because now I think the Tums are more a habitual psychological dependence. However, the Khelp is what gets me through the night without heartburn or reflux. I know this to be true because before Khelp, I had Tums bedside and would take them periodically thru the night as heartburn restarted. I do not need that anymore since using Khelp. I highly recommend.

Answers to some of our most frequently asked questions

All of the ingredients in Khelp are generally recognized as safe for use during pregnancy and lactation. Always follow best practices for the health of you and your baby and consult your doctor. For more pregnancy safety data click here.

Yes. Because it creates a unique physical barrier vs. a pharmacological mechanism of action, Khelp is safe for long-term use and has no side effects.

Khelp utilizes a unique ingredient called Alginate, derived from seaweed. Our capsules also contain calcium carbonate and sodium bicarbonate that help it create a gel-like barrier when it hits your stomach acid. This barrier floats above your stomach, blocking the acid from entering your esophagus. No acid in your esophagus means no reflux, heartburn, cough, or voice hoarseness.

Antacids, like Tums, work by neutralizing stomach acid. This treatment is very short-acting and can be minimally effective.

H2 blockers, like Pepcid AC, and proton pump inhibitors (PPIs), like Prilosec, work by reducing the amount of acid in your stomach. Although effective, both can produce side effects and are not recommended for long-term use.

Most herbal remedies work by “coating” your stomach or esophagus to help soothe symptoms. This approach can also be minimally effective. Khelp provides real relief without interfering with your natural production of stomach acid, which is critical to long-term health.

Due to its physical vs. pharmacological mechanism of action, it is usually fine to take Khelp with other medications or supplements. Many people who experience more severe symptoms will combine a small dose of their prescription reflux medications with Khelp in order to reduce their medication intake over time. We always recommend consulting your doctor, however, for questions about specific medications and use cases.

Khelp usually works immediately, but can take up to 4 days of regular use if you have been using other treatments regularly.
